When did you start Rugby and how did you become Rugby Development Officer of Kamonyi District?
I started Playing Rugby when I was in senior two in 2007 at Gs Bugoba , since then I continued playing Rugby in secondary school ( Interschools ) and later joined Puma Kamonyi Rugby Club to play Rwanda Rugby National League which greatly encourage me to continue staying in Rugby because I had a place to practice my lovely game after ending secondary schools up to when I was choosed to be Rugby Development Officer of Kamonyi District in Last year.
I was greatly excited to became Rugby Development Officer of Kamonyi District because I saw that in our District we have potential in interschools, where Rugby playing schools won interschools cup Twice for both seven’s and 15 aside format . We had so many young talent in Primary and secondary schools who need to acquire skills and knowledge of Rugby to sustain the development of Rugby in our district with my experience for playing Rugby in schools and for our club here in Kamonyi.
Tell us about Rugby Development in Kamonyi District Today?
Today in Kamonyi District we have seven primary schools and four secondary schools which are active now through the https://friendsofrwandanrugby.com/ and Rwanda Rugby Federation we have access to training materials like Balls , Tagbelts, jersey and other training equipement than it was before which facilitate the spread and practice of the game.
I want to continue working hard to contribute to the development of Rugby in District by focusing on young players to massively engaged in the game , increasing number of schools both primary and secondary schools.
Your wish for the Rwandan rugby ?
In general I would like to see rugby development in all districts as well as the number of clubs and schools increase. Having Rugby infrastructures (Rugby Pitch) in different District would allow young talent to show their potential and Sponsorship will allow Rugby in Rwanda to be more competitive sport locally , the region ,Africa and around the world and I think we are in a good way if we continue to work together as a team (from schools ,clubs, federation and partners).
I can not forget to thank friends of Rwanda Rugby Charity which greatly supports the development of Rugby in schools from grassroots and wish that this support would spread in other districts to witness Rugby Growth in the future.
