University Rugby Coaches trained on how to play Rugby and Coach Rugby

The two days training was organized by Rwanda  Rugby Federation aimed to boost Rugby coaching in University of Rwanda campuses which have started playing Rugby such as ; Huye, Nyagatare, Rukara, Rwamagana, and  Remera and busogo campus which are going to start playing rugby.

The first day of training on 3/3/2022 was delivered  Claude Aime Ezoua expert in Rugby and  a former technical director of the Rwanda Rugby Federation 2018/2019 .The first day of training the participants was given an overview of Rwanda Rugby federation, when the the federation started and the current progress of rwanda rugby federation since 2002.

 

After the general introduction of Rwanda rugby the trainees were introduced to the basic coaching of Rugby  and laws of the game, they were shown different ways to play the game and also format shown  different format of  Rugby 7aside, 10 or 15 aside.Based on the game played by 15 players, they were shown how to stand on the pitch position of forward and backline. In this game, they were shown how to score a goal.They were given the example that if they gave you a ball you would run away and leave your teammates and put the ball in the line, you would  win 5 points and awarded  conversion 2 points.

The second day on 4/03/2022 of training focused on strength and conditioning which was delivered by elisabeth oehler expert in strength and conditioning and a volunteer of friends of Rwandan Rugby charity. She  shared with  the trainees the physical qualities required  for a rugby player such as strength, power,speed, agility, flexibility etc and they primodial for a rugby player.

‘The Rwanda Rugby Federation president ” Tharcisse Kamanda ,thanked all the participant and promised to continue working together to strengthen Rugby in Universities through the increase of competition and coaching and also he thanked the Rwanda National Olympic & sport Committe Represented by Mugisha Jean Jacque Common wealth & Athletes Program Manager.

According to Mugisha Jacque ” he thanked the participant and  initiative of Rwanda Rugby Federation of organizing the technical course of University coaches which will help to spread Rugby in Universities and promised the support of Rwanda National Olympic committee for the future training programs ”.

meanwhile Rwanda Rugby Federation look forward to organize first Edition of University sevens to be held on saturday 12th, march 2022 in Kigali Kacyiru Red  cross Ground from 8:00 AM

Rwanda Rugby Federation

The Rwanda Rugby Federation (RRF) as the umbrella organisation that unites the entire rugby fraternity in Rwanda. RRF has been administering, developing and generally organising all rugby activities since 2002, not only through out Rwanda but on the continental level as well. The RRF has since grown further countrywide with over 800 active players, 300 female players, a robust fun club, ardent well wishers and intensive involvement in the development of the game in over 240 schools from all districts in Rwanda not to mention the RRF’s participation in community projects.
