The Rwanda Rugby Federation “RRF” organized a one-day University Rugby 7’s Tournament 2022 University Competition .
The First Edition of university 7’s competition aimed at promoting the game at Universities and encouraging students to take part in it held at the Kacyiru Red Cross ground, on Saturday, March 12, 2022 with the participation of 4 men’s teams namely UR Huye, UR Nyagatare, UR Rwamagana and UR Rukara and teams 3 of the women are UR Rukara, UR Nyagatare and UR Rwamagana.
In the men’s and women’s singles, each team played the first round and second round and UR Rukara’s men’s and women’s teams won the trophy.
In the men’s category, UR Rukara beat UR Nyagatare both games, 19-0 and 17-0. They beat UR Huye 21-29 and 5-0. UR Rukara also defeated UR Rwamagana 28-0 and 24-0.
The team won the trophy where it finished first with 6 games, followed by UR Huye with 4 wins, UR Nyagatare with 1 win and UR Rwamagana with no wins.
In the women’s group, UR Rukara beat UR Rwamagana 24-0 and 17-0. He also beat UR Nyagatare 12-0 and 12-0.

RRF General Mnager , Muhire John Livingstone said the tournament was organized to promote the game at the Universities to keep the game going.
“We intend to bring it to the attention of the IPRC, so that children can play it in primary and secondary schools and continue to play it at the university,” he said.
Muhire goes on to say that the game is on the rise as they now have about 100 schools playing Rugby including 60 high schools. “That’s why we want the universities to increase again because we have a large number of children playing this game at the high school level and we want them to continue to play it so that we can have a strong national team,” he said.
In the run-up to the University Inter-University Competition, on February 26, 2022, the RRF organized a training course for school sports representatives in 30 Districts of Rwandaand on 3rd to 4th march ,2022 Rwanda Rugby Federation organized the sports leaders and coaches of the University have also been trained so that the game can be better understood by the people and by the other sports representatives of the University.
