Rugby Growth in Rwanda: Evaluative Matches Conclude Get Into Rugby 2.0 Project Implementation.

18th December marked the end of 10 weeks of implementation of the “Get into Rugby 2.0 Project.”

At the national level, the closing ceremony was held at Ecole des Sciences Byimana in Ruhango District.

On the sidelines of the closing ceremony, three matches were played: two for boys and one for girls to evaluate the success of the project.

 

In the boys’ category, Gitisi TSS edged Kayenzi TSS by 24-06, and

GS Shyogwe defeated Nyanza TSS by 14-03.

For the girls’ category, Gitisi TSS won against Nyanza TSS by 17-00.

 

In the Northern Region, for the boys’ category

ES Musanze won against APICUR TSS by 10-00, while in the girls’ category, APICUR TSS defeated ES Musanze by 10-05.

 

In the Western Province, TTC Mururu will play against ES Bugarama. The remaining teams from TTC Kirambo, Center for Champions TVET, and LDK will play their evaluation matches in the upcoming days in the second academic term.

In his remarks to the participants, especially the school players, the Rwanda Rugby Federation President, Kamanda Tharcisse, reminded them that they are now beginning their journey to become active players for clubs. He urged them to continue training hard to develop their talents to an elite level. He also took the opportunity to thank the secondary schools that agreed to be part of the project  implementation, with particular recognition given to World Rugby for choosing Rwanda to receive funding to implement it.

Rwanda Rugby Federation

The Rwanda Rugby Federation (RRF) as the umbrella organisation that unites the entire rugby fraternity in Rwanda. RRF has been administering, developing and generally organising all rugby activities since 2002, not only through out Rwanda but on the continental level as well. The RRF has since grown further countrywide with over 800 active players, 300 female players, a robust fun club, ardent well wishers and intensive involvement in the development of the game in over 240 schools from all districts in Rwanda not to mention the RRF’s participation in community projects.
