Friendly game before the National league kick off

This afternoon, at the Gatenga youth center where is the home and play ground of Thousand Hills RFC team, there was a friendly game between the Lions de Fer RFC from Nyamirambo and the Gatenga base Thousand Hills RFC.

Quite a number of rugby veterans, lovers and fans came and experienced a very good and fair play game of rugby between the two sides. The match started at 4 pm and it was a 10’s game. The two teams agreed that they will play 2 games of 20 minutes each. It started with tense and was very entertaining! The Nyamirambo lads put pressure on the host which resulted to an early try by Maendeleo Sixbert aka Mende.

It was until 2 minutes to the end of the first half that Habimana Heritie scored the try which help the host to be ahead by 7-5. In the second half, by the great effort of the Lions led by Kamali Vincent from Buffaloes RFC played a physical yet tactical game and scores two more tries within just 5 minutes and made the score to 19-7 to the host. Players from both sides were enjoying themselves in front their fans and shown great talent. The Thousand Hills RFC were not very good at defense but had a very good attacking like as well as great offloads, Isimbi Carlos, Nsengimana J.D’amour were the play makers, and helped their team to score two more tries. The final score of this first game was Thousand Hills RFC 21-19 Lions de Fer.

During the second game, the visitors changed their game plan, it was obvious that the Lions were bigger in size as well as at the scrum. Their forwards used driving mauls and scored one try at the end of the first half, they shown experience, players like Akami Makombe Benjamin, Twizeyimana Jean Leonard (bebe), Uwamahoro Olivier and Umuhire Victorien were the drive of the team. At the end of the game Maendeleo Sixbert scored the last try of the game and the winners were Lions de Fer by 12-0 to Thousand Hills RFC.

The overall winners were the Lions de Fer 31-21 Thousand Hills RFC.

As most people were saying at the end of the game is that, other teams should do the same in order to build a strong rugby relationship, fair play and team work toward the rugby development in Rwanda.

Rwanda Rugby Federation

The Rwanda Rugby Federation (RRF) as the umbrella organisation that unites the entire rugby fraternity in Rwanda. RRF has been administering, developing and generally organising all rugby activities since 2002, not only through out Rwanda but on the continental level as well. The RRF has since grown further countrywide with over 800 active players, 300 female players, a robust fun club, ardent well wishers and intensive involvement in the development of the game in over 240 schools from all districts in Rwanda not to mention the RRF’s participation in community projects.
